The SLCD modules are compatible with all microcontrollers and even some DSPs, making integration straightforward. If no free port is available during an upgrade, the SLCD’s second serial port can be used in “pass-thru” mode to connect to the replaced device. This ensures minimal processor overhead with small control packets, making serial transmit and receive easily interrupt-driven.

Programming with SLCD modules is simple and efficient. Using ASCII commands, you can draw images, text, controls, and other interface elements. Controls report back over the serial line when activated or changed, and images are stored in flash memory on the SLCD controller board. The Software Reference Manual provides detailed command descriptions and sample code to help you get started quickly.

SLCD modules work seamlessly with any operating system, whether you have a full-blown embedded system running Windows, Linux, or QNX, or a small RTOS, or even “bare metal” code. The LCD interface remains consistent across all platforms, ensuring flexibility and ease of use.

Use industry-standard tools like Adobe® Illustrator®, Adobe Photoshop®, or GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) to design your images. The Screen Layout Utilities program (a plug-in for GIMP) simplifies image placement, and video tutorials are available to guide you through the process.

The SLCD modules come with a built-in graphics library, eliminating the need for additional memory overhead for library code. This allows your embedded system to focus its resources on controlling your product efficiently.
