MSS Switch
This is a special purpose switch used
to test the Cisco 5in1 and 12in1 interfaces in all combinations
of protocol and DTE / DCE flavor. It can be wired to implement
a
variety of 1-N multiplex / switch configurations.
The MSS (Modular Serial Switch) system is designed
to provide a flexible solution to the testing needs of Ciscos
WAN serial interfaces. It emulates back-to-back serial cables
in an automated way so that manual cable swapping is eliminated.
The MSS system consists of a VME chassis, a PC compatible
controller, and one or more switch modules. Each module consists
of one or more switch cards. These are internally interconnected
via ribbon cables to implement the desired switching functionality.
For example, the MSS-MOD-TF1 is a single card module that
provides two 1-1 5in1 serial connections between Cisco WAN
ports. The MSS-MOD-AL1 is a five card module that provides
a quad 1-4 functionality (one reference and four UUT ports).
Typically 1-1 switching is used when test speed is of primary
importance, and 1-N testing is used to minimize the number
of reference router ports.
The MSS supports the following interfaces:
- 5in1 60 pin Molex LFH connector
- 12in1 26 pin Foxconn connector
- Compact Serial, 8 ports, 200 pin Molex LFH connector
The MSS is controlled via either of two RS-232 serial ports
on the controller.
